I’m not one to usually post about makeup, but after discovering two new products that have changed my life I had to share the wealth and share with you some of my favorite beauty essentials. If there’s a product you live by, feel free to share yours as well!
Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub. Years ago when I had really bad skin, I used to use Proactive. While it cleared up my complexion, I found it to be really harsh on it as well. Additionally, one day without its use and I was back to breaking out in no time. I feel like there’s something in its formula that causes ones skin to rely on it and basically flip the fuck out otherwise. Luckily, I found this scrub by Biore randomly one day at Walgreens and my face has been clear ever since. Same results as Proactive, but feels gentler and it’s less expensive!
Aquaphor Lip Repair. The reason I need chapstick on a daily basis is because I have the disgusting habit of peeling my lips at the slightest hint of dryness. I used to use Carmex, however, when I wouldn’t use it my lips would turn a “whitish” color. Just like with the Proactive, I felt like part of its formula made my skin reliant on it. Nevertheless, I switched over to Aquaphor because I prefer vaseline type consistencies, and my lips don’t get dry as easily even when I miss an application.
Lancome Hypnose Mascara. My eyelashes are prissy little bitches, and it took me years to find the right mascara. From brand name (Dior) to drugstore (Covergirl) I could never find the right formula that would keep my lashes voluminous. If it stayed, it would melt into my eyes by the end of the day or smudge underneath my eyes making me look like I tricked one too many times. Although Lancome’s Hypnose mascara still gets under my eyes a little bit, it’s still the best one I’ve tried thus far. But even then, I have to use the waterproof formula specifically. I tried a different Hynose product (baby doll I think) and it wouldn’t hold my lashes up.
Beauty Blender. OK, so it’s really embarrassing how excited I was after trying this sponge out for the first time. I had heard so many good things about it in various Youtube tutorials, and finally bought one at the local Sephora. Pricey, but depending on how long it lasts definitely worth it. The application was easy, fast, and flawless. I’ve tried those generic white triangular sponges they sell at drugstores, but the difference is obvious. It leaves an almost airbrush appearance, and you can say good-bye to those unsightly lines and brush strokes some foundation brushes may cause.
Makeup Forever HD Foundation. I use a Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer on a daily basis, because my skin is uneven and it doubles as a face sunscreen. But for those nights out on the town, I like to have real coverage. Like the Beauty Blender, I heard so many great things about this foundation formula but strayed from it because 1) It’s expensive and 2) I was so used to using MAC. Now, I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Just a little bit of this applied with the Beauty Blender can provide coverage for your entire face. You get this almost matte like finish, yet feel like you don’t have any makeup on. That’s probably what I like best about it. Although my MAC foundations have provided great coverage, they’ve always felt heavy on.
