I am thankful now, more than ever for FaceTime, Tango, and Skype. For allowing me to do things like watch a post-season Giants game with my best friend in San Francisco while I’m in Yankee Town. And ultimately, keeping me in touch with my friends and family in the most personal impersonal way possible.
I am thankful for my curling wand. It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever introduced to my hair since … well, EVER. I get the most amazing curls in the least amount of time. And the amount of compliments I get on it are enough to make me disregard the fact that I’ve burned myself three times since obtaining it just a few months ago.
I am thankful for the Puerto Rican bakery down the street in Williamsburg. More specifically, their weekday am workers. For knowing the true definition of “light and sweet,” and making my coffee PERFECT each and every time I order it.
I am thankful for HopStop, which for a new New Yorker is imperative for the daily commute. It’s ingenious, convenient, and most of all accurate.
I am thankful for this beautiful ability to make people feel things through my writing. I may not be fighting wars, or leading revolutions. But this is my way of changing the world.
I am thankful for my family back home, including the members I got to choose for myself. Without their support and generosity I wouldn’t be where I am today. They gave me a reason to move, and most of all a reason to come back.
I am thankful for my new family in New York. Especially for the Cabo crew for their endless IOU’s, and for Jess for opening up her home and conveniently being the same size in shoes AND clothes as me. Have you seen her closet? I am a lucky girl.
I am thankful for LOVE. And being able to attend the wedding of one of the greatest loves I’ve ever known.
Lastly, I am thankful for YOU. If you are reading this, I appreciate you. For allowing me to share my stories of love, heartache, lust, happiness, laughter, and pain. And being a part of this adventure as I pursue my dreams. THANK YOU. From the bottom of my heart (and trust, I have heart too big for my own good), THANK YOU.
